Best places to live in London as a student
London has some of the world’s best universities and is a highly desirable place to study, work and live but the downside is it’s expensive and if you’re on a student budget knowing where to live can pose something of a challenge. Fear not because that’s where Gobritanya can help.
We’ve curated the best places to live in London on a budget and still get to your lectures in time!
Tottenham
The ever-evolving district of Tottenham is culturally diverse so finding world cuisine is easy, but you might want to hunt down the famous “Tottenham Cake” – which has been baked locally since 1901.
Fans of the British Premier league might also be interested to know that this is home to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, one of London’s best-known clubs. And when you want to kick back this area is a great antidote to living and studying in London because you can enjoy the wildlife and water sports at the nearby Lee Valley.
Our 225-room property is perfect for anyone studying at any central London university, as Tottenham has excellent public transport links that can get you into the centre of London within 15 minutes.
Lewisham
Lewisham is situated in Central South London and is known for being a creative hub, and neighbouring the historic Royal Borough of Greenwich, which is where you can visit The Royal Observatory where Greenwich Mean Time was invented.
It is home to affordable neighbourhoods such as Brockley and Deptford which means that’s where you will find the cool and creative people! And the place you need to go to enjoy good food and a bit of people watching is Model Market, - dubbed one of the best food scenes in Europe.
Lewisham has great transport links and is served by both an underground and train line and regular buses to all parts of London. And our Lewisham Residence is ideal if you are studying at University of Greenwich, Goldsmiths or University of London.
Highbury
Highbury is in North London, and this Zone 1 neighbourhood is a highly desirable neighbourhood amongst families and young professionals which means that everything you might ever need and want is on your doorstep, from gyms, theatres, cinemas, to good quality restaurants serving up cuisine from around the world.
Highbury’s central location means you’re in the middle of everything with the West End a 10-minute tube ride and the escape of Hampstead Heath a short bus ride away. And our property is ideal if you’re going to be studying at University of Westminster, City, University of London, London Metropolitan University, SOAS or University of London.
Wembley
Multicultural Wembley in West London is near Heathrow Airport, making it an ideal place for a painless commute to the airport when you want to fly somewhere! And a little-known fact about Wembley is it has a half-built construction, called Watkin Tower, that was started in the 1800s to rival the Eiffel Tower, in Paris.
It should have been 1,175 feet tall, which would have made it taller than the modern-day Shard. Unfortunately, the tower only reached first base before funds dried up.
Wembley has all the amenities you need and whilst it’s a bit further out it has regular services into central London, from Wembley Park Tube station, which is a five-minute walk from our residence.
Wembley is a great location for those studying at Regent's University London, University of Westminster, Middlesex University London's, UCL and Brunel University.
